I have a master’s degree in French and am currently studying Icelandic and Italian at Háskóli Íslands. I also work as a freelance translator (French and Portuguese into English), and I am a kundalini yoga teacher as well.
I worked as a certified tour guide in Miami for several years, where I gave tours in English, French, and Portuguese. I also worked at a multilingual hospitality desk for Costa Cruise Lines in Miami, where I assisted guests with hotel and cruise line check-in, airport transfers, touristic information about the city etc. in French, Italian, Spanish, German and Portuguese. Additionally, I worked as multi-lingual staff for various tour operators. My duties included receiving guests at the airport, transfers to hotels, ships, events, etc., accompanying them on excursions, assisting with any additional information they needed, as well as various other duties. I worked extensively with Brazilian and French incentive-trip groups, among others.
In New York City I worked as a project manager in two large translation agencies where I was in charge of the management and production of various translation projects. This included quoting prospective projects; setting up and assigning projects; coordinating freelance resources; and delivering projects to clients. Other responsibilities included final quality check of all work; developing, updating and maintaining glossaries; hiring and training both freelance and permanent resources; translating (French, English, Portuguese); editing and proofreading; status reports; scheduling; and various other administrative duties. Some of our major accounts included large consulting firms, automotive companies, and pharmaceutical database management companies.
I was a TEFL teacher (Teacher of English as a Foreign Language) in Miami Beach where I also coordinated an internship program that placed students in local companies to get business experience in English.
I am looking for either part-time or full-time work preferably in the tourism industry where I can use my multiple language skills and know-how from my experience as a tour guide in Miami.
I have dual citizenship: Iceland/USA.
